Bowling Green University won the Mid-American Conference Sunday, securing that title for the 36th straight time.

The Falcons defeated the University of Cincinnati 53-15, capping off a strong MAC season where they handled all of their tough games without getting much of a scare.

On Saturday, Bowling Green defeated Dayton 72-20. Center Adam Regini scored only one try himself, but his long runs through the Dayton defense helped set up four tries from freshman wing Bob Kiskin and center Griffen Palmer as Bowling Green rolled.

Cincinnati showed they are for real with an impressive 41-18 defeat of Western Michigan. Cincy actually led 41-3 at one point.

In Sunday’s final, it was a four-man show, and BGSU Director of Rugby got a little poetic, harkening back to old sportswriter Grantland Rice’s description of the Notre Dame football team’s backfield in 1924.

Said Mazzarella: “outlined against a brilliant blue November sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases. Their real names are Sora, Regini, Bryant and McNamara. They formed the crest of the Bowling Green cyclone before which another fighting Bearcat rugby team was swept over the precipice at College Park this afternoon as 500 spectators peered down on the bewildering panorama spread on the green plain below.”

Hooker Phil Bryant, center Adam Regini, Mitchell Sora, and Niall McNamara all featured heavily in the best Bowling Green moments. 

Bryant scored the opener, and after Cincinnati equalized, Sora set up Regini for the second Bowling Green try. AJ Geoghegan scored off a blocked kick but late in the first half it was still close - 17-15 for BGSU. But tries from Adam Kubicki, Bryant, Palmer, and Regini made it 41-15 and basically put the game away. Two more tries finished it off.

So it’s on to the DIAA playoffs, and it’s quite likely that Cincinnati has done enough to get a spot in USA Rugby’s fall final eight, as well.
