CSULB Wins High Desert
Cal State Long Beach went 5-0 in the High Desert Classic in Albuquerque, NM this past weekend.
The 49ers opened up the weekend with a 58-7 defeat of UTEP. Then they faced Oklahoma, which had played a conference game earlier in the day. After falling behind 7-0, Long Beach rebounded to win 20-7. the final pool play of the day was against New Mexico, and the 49ers won comfortably, 88-0.
That set up the semis on Day Two, and CSULB handled a big-pack University of Denver team, moving the ball quickly and winning 40-7.
That set up the final against Oklahoma, which had won its semi over New Mexico Tech. CSULB scored two tries in the opening five minutes to take an early lead and Oklahoma just couldn't get back into the game. Long Beach showed off a strong goal line defense, keeping the Sooners out of the try zone, and won 33-3.
In the five games - all 40 minutes in length - CSULB allowed only 24 points.
