Bowling Green Relishes Win over WMU
Bowling Green may have won the MAC playoffs last year, but they still remember being beaten by Western Michigan in the regular season.
That game was in the backs of the minds of the BGSU players this past weekend as the Falcons took on the Broncos in yet another meeting. Both teams were undefeated, of course, and so this game had plenty of meaning.
The result turned out in Bowling Green’s favor, to the tune of 47-14. Head Coach Tony Mazzarella said he was impressed with how his team handled the physical side of the game and also how the Falcons shook off their impatience - impatience that led to some squandered scoring opportunities - and settled down to take control of the game.
“We got to the gain line repeatedly, got quick ball, and made good decisions,” said Mazzarella.
With hooker Phil Bryant playing a good, compete game and the backs firing - Adam Regini breaking through repeatedly, and fullback Cole Shaffer scored four tries - they put it together.
Bryant said it was good to get some measure of revenge against WMU.
“Sometimes it takes a loss to show you what you’re doing wrong,” Bryant told Goff Rugby Report. “In that sense, that loss last year was useful. But even now, winning this game, we know we’ve got more to give.”
