The Girls HS All Americans western team capped off a perfect summer for the program with a 55-5 defeat of the British Columbia U18s Sunday in Seattle.

The HSAA program ended up 6-0, with two HSAA East wins over Quebec's U18s, and two HSAA U16 wins over Quebec's U16s. And on Friday the HSAA West team beat BC 54-24.

The rematch was not as close as the HSAA team started to play with more cohesion. 

Finau Tamaivena opened the scoring for the HSAAs after a solid scrum effort from her team. BC did well to recycle and work the phases, but the HSAA defense was too much and the Canadians were forced into mistakes. From one of those mistakes, the HSAA team powered up through the forwards and then set Nia Tolliver free for an excellent try. McKenna Strong converted for a 12-0 lead.

It was more of the same later in the first half. The HSAA defense kept jarring the ball loose, but BC did well to hold on for a while. Eventually the inevitable happened - a BC kick was gathered by flyhalf Mele Tausinga, who set up Sui A'Au for the third try. Strong converted.

BC got one back, punishing some HSAA penalties. But the Americans won the ball after the restart and spun it wide to Tolliver, and the imposing ICEF wing was in. Some more work out wide set up Tamaivena for her second, and then A'au scored her second after BC couldn't control the ball at the scrum. Strong was good on both kicks to make it 40-5. Good ball-handling saw the rock go through several hands before Julie Riekena, who had started the movement, finished it. Brianna Vaquez torched BC on the outside, and then Penina Tuilaepa finished it off.

It was a very impressive showing by the USA high school girls, showcasing the diversity of athletic talent on the West Coast. It could be, now, that the program needs to find tougher opposition.
