BC High #1 Seed in Mass.
BC High wrapped up their regular season Wednesday with 62-15 defeat of Needham HS.
Led by Junior Max McCullom’s three tries, BC High capped off a run of games that have seen their team steadily improve. Since mid-April, BCH has beaten Xaverian Bros. 22-12 and Bishop Hendricken 22-12, but both games were in doubt until the final 10-15 minutes. Still, the defense has held steady, and various players have stepped up when needed.
As a team, we have seen a wide distribution of attack. Over the last three games hooker Noah Peterson, flanker Rob Lester, No. 8 CJ Reilly, flanker Griffin Gildea, scrumhalf Alex Richards, center Max McCullom, and wingers Ryan Connolly and Chris Hannigan have all scored tries.
"The boys are really beginning to trust one another and feed off one another in attack," said BCH Coach Paul Carty. "We have a few horses, but we feel like anyone can create and exploit gaps in our opponents’ defense."
BC High enters the Massachusetts playoffs as the top seed, and they're scoring tries, but it's going to be defense that will see them through.
"We are comfortable with our defensive pattern, and trust is there, but we have to do the hard work in defense to really control matches," said Carty. "When teams have exploited us and really exposed us its been because we haven’t put in the work off the ball, matching up and getting into good position. That will certainly be our focus going forward, as the league has been very tight this season."
