Rugby Pa Single-School Latest - Conestoga Wins Again
Conestoga HS held onto 1st in the Rugby Pennsylvania’s Single-School White with two big wins over the weekend - defeating Unionville 38-15 on Thursday, and then shutting out Bishop Shanahan 48-0 on Sunday.
That moved Conestoga to 3-1 in league play - their only loss being an 18-14 defeat at the hands of Cumberland Valley. CV, for their pat, lost a close one to Unionville, and also sit at 3-1, but with fewer bonus points.
Conestoga was led by captain Pete Jean who, said Coach Alexander Johnson, “probably one of the best rugby players I have coached in 11 years. Daquan Perri was all sorts of problems when he carried the ball and almost never went down with just one tackler. At fullback, Dondre Ross inserted into the backline effectively and countered well, also.
So Conestoga is now set to face 1-3 State College in the final game of the regular season, and should be able to win that to take the Single-School White.
Meanwhile, in the Single-School Red, St. Joe’s Prep defeated Malvern Prep in impressive fashion 53-12 to improve to 3-1. St. Joe’s is chasing Gregory the Great, who beat them 26-24 on Thursday. GGA faces Malvern this coming week, while St. Joe’s takes on La Salle College HS in a clash of 3-1 teams.
And in the Single-School Blue, Moon Area beat North Pitt, while West Allegheny defeated Central Catholic. Both teams move to 4-0 and will play each other this coming Friday.
