UC Davis, Sac State to Pac West Final
Sacramento State and UC Davis will meet each other Sunday afternoon after the teams won Pacific Western semifinal games Saturday.
UC Davis handled Nevada fairly comfortably 35-3.
“The team has been solidifying everything we have been practicing all season,” said UC Davis Coach Kal Incendy. “All the players have been working on their personal conditioning and their synergy. The team understands that we … have some very challenging matches ahead. It has been a long season/journey , but its been a great learning experience for everyone - as a team they have made noticeable improvements.”
Meanwhile, Sacramento State had a slightly tougher experience, emerging 25-17 winners over Chico State in a game that Coach Adam Macrae said could have gone either way.
“We made some key defensive players, and some late subs and those guys seemed to finish the game off for us,” said Macrae.
One of those subs was flanker Michael Rascon. Normally a starter, he is coming back from injury, and coming off the bench he put in some earth-shaking hits and helped change the tone of the game in the final minutes.
“Chico State is a hell of a team and they played us very tough,” said Macrae.
But Sac State survived, and as a result the Hornets will be in the DIAA national Round of 16 next week.
