We’re down to one more regional semifinal after this past weekend’s Men’s NSCRO playoffs.
Mount St. Mary’s joined Southern Indiana and Eastern Connecticut State in the national semifinals.
MSM defeated North Florida 83-5 on Saturday and took down Duke 56-5 on Sunday to make it to the final four.
Meanwhile, in the Southwest, four teams advanced to the regional semis. Claremont Colleges defeated Santa Rosa College 22-0. Head Coach Scott Bracken said his team’s attack was not in sync, “but our defense was excellent.”
Meanwhile, Cal Maritime beat Azusa Pacific 71-7. Head Coach Steve Hiatt said his team wasn’t as big as Azusa Pacific, but his second row had good height and they played well as a team.
“We finally put in a complete performance,” he said.
In New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands beat Angelo State 53-29, and University of Denver beat St. Edward’s 39-29.
So Cal Maritime will host all four remaining teams from the West on April 16-17, with the Keelhaulers facing New Mexico Highlands, and Claremont Colleges taking on Denver. The winners of those Saturday games will play for the right to enter the national semis at Infinity Park in Glendale.
“Playing in Glendale is a fantastic experience,” said Hiatt, whose team was there last year. “I wish every division had a chance to play there. We had a call that needed to be looked at and the ref went to the big screen to check it. I thought, this is big-time.”
