Gonzaga HS won the Boys HS bracket of the Cherry Blossom Tournament in DC over the weekend, defeating Loyola Blakefield in the final.

Archbishop Spalding took the Plate over the Maryland Exiles, while Christian Brothers Academy took the Spoon.

This was the first effort on the field after Gonzaga's 3-0 tour of Spain. That tour, said Coach Peter Baggetta, was useful in putting together their pattern of play. The opposition in Spain, said Baggetta, was skilled but not big, and Gonzaga's size wore them down. But the DC team also has some side, led by Patrick Sheehy and Joey Freeman, and that helped them in the speedier world of short-game tournament play this weekend.
