Penn HS defeated St. Ignatius in a close game between the two Midwestern powers Friday night.
St. Ignatius led much of the game and held a 14-5 lead into the midpoint of the second half. But then Dan Afa'ese scored a try for Penn, and then Sam Scholtes nudged Penn ahead 15-14 with a penalty goal with about four minutes to go.
With time winding down, Penn worked their way into Ignatius territory, and Afa'ese broke four tacklers to rumble 20 meters through traffic to score under the posts. Scholtes converted to finish the game 22-14.
"Another classic and very physical Indiana - Ohio battle," said Penn Head Coach Bart Bottorff. "Much respect by both teams."
St. Ignatius hosts Xavier on Sunday.
