In another rain-soaked game, the San Diego Mustangs shut out the Eastside Lions of Washington state 19-0 in the second win of their two-game tour.

The Mustangs got starting scrumhalf James Downey back and his experience and ball handling showed an immediate improvement throughout the backline.

“Our structure was a big step up from Friday,” said San Diego Coach Matt Sandoval - the Mustangs beat Seattle in that game.

Locks Zach Hewitt and Nico Friscia both scored tries in the game, and Jack Lewis capped off a nice switch move to run in the third Mustangs try. Player of the game was outside center Michael Terlep, who held Eastside's midfielders in check. HS All American Alfonso Cornu-Labat in check.

T”he Mustangs handled the cold weather pretty well for Southern Californians, and also enjoyed a tour of the University of Washington and Pike Place Market.

“The hospitality of the Seattle teams was only matched by the quality of the rugby on the pitch,” said Mustangs Coach Ramon Samaniego. “We hope to have them down in Sunny San Diego sooner rather than later.”
