Week two in the Pacific Western DIAA Conference, and Chico State once again won big, beating San Francisco State 74-0 behind 12 tries.
CSU is now 2-0, having sunk San Jose State the week before. Against SFSU, Danny Lalor scored three tries, and both Drew Parson and Jack Fondale scored two.
Right begind Chico State is Stanford, which recorded a very nice 31-24 win over Sacramento State, with Cale Williams, Dahlton Brown, Rory Houghton-Berry, Jay Reader, and Guy Kasznik all scoring tries. Stanford is unbeaten, having tied Fresno State last week, and the Cardinal sit 1-0-1. Defending DIAA national champs UC Davis were idle this weekend, as was Nevada.
San Jose State got into the win column, beating UC Santa Cruz 26-16. The game was in the balance at 19-16 before a late try and conversion earned the four-try bonus point for SJSU, and denied a close-loss BP for the Banana Slugs.
Rookie Alejandro Puente came on as a sub at inside center in the second half for SJSU and made some big tackles and scored that late try to put the game away, bursting onto the ball at pace to go in under the posts.
The season still has nine more weekends to go before the playoffs, so there's much to play for still. But a big game is coming up next week, as 2-0 Chico State faces 1-0 UC Davis.
