Not Just A Pretty Name - BC Faces 'Bama in Bowl
Boston College and Alabama both have their storied moments in college sports, but that doesn’t mean they have played each other much in rugby, if at all.
With BC coming off a humbling loss to AIC in what amounted to the ECRC championship game, and Alabama coming off a close loss to South Carolina in the SCRC semis, both will want to end on a high at the ACRC Bowl Series.
The two teams meet 8:30pm Friday night at the RAC in Charlotte, NC.
The Tide will look at their attempted comeback against the Gamecocks with the knowledge that they were almost there, and with a nice combination of pace and power, they will be tough for the Eagles.
Coach Mark Seitz has his players playing until they drop, and its that intensity that has seen them be difficult in the late minutes.
Meanwhile, BC has had a week off, and probably needed it.
“The time off has given some of our injured players the opportunity to heal in time for the final match of the season,” said BC’s Ben Nathan. “Instead of making it difficult for us to focus, these two weeks have given us a chance to focus on getting back to our style of rugby, which we got away from for the last couple weeks of the season. It's all about continuity for us, putting series of phases together with speed.”
Nathan said the fact that these are two high-profile colleges in any college sport just adds to it all.
“Everyone knows about the success of Alabama's football team, but we don't know much about their rugby team,” said Nathan. “They're an unknown to us coming into this weekend. With two big name schools going against each other, hopefully it's a good game that has us come out on top.”
