As if they needed any confirmation, Western Michigan put their stamp on their MAC season with a 35-14 defeat of Central Michigan to finish league standings play 4-0.

WMU is the #1 team from the MAC North, and will play the MAC South #2, which is still to be determined. With the loss, Central Michigan cannot pass Bowling Green for second in the MAC North.

BGSU might have clinched 2nd, but they weren’t too happy about the day, as the Falcons went down 51-29 to Cincinnati. Because this game was across divisions, it doesn’t count in the standings, but it once again shows that Cincinnati has improved since September. 

Ohio edged Dayton 24-17 to move into a tie with Cincinnati at the top of the MAC South, while Miami just got by Louisville.

Mathematically, then, only Louisville has been eliminated from playoff contention in the MAC South. Here’s how each of the other four teams can make the playoffs slated for November 7 and 8 in Cincinnati:

Miami (currently 1-1). Beat Dayton and Ohio, either with a bonus point in each game, or, if only one bonus point, by denying Ohio any bonus points and winning that game by 14. (The Miami-Dayton game from October 17 was called off due to the tragic death of a Dayton player and will need to be made up.)

Ohio (currently 2-0-1). Beat Miami, secure a tie, or get two bonus points. They can make it by losing to Miami or getting just one bonus point, but one more point makes it official.

Dayton (currently 1-1). Beat Miami and Louisville. 

Cincinnati (currently 2-2). Hope Ohio beats Miami and Miami beats or ties Dayton
