BOULDER, Colo. (USA Rugby Release) – USA Rugby has selected 55 deserving student-athletes from 35 schools as the Women’s Collegiate All-Americans (WCAA) for the 2014-15 season. Reigning Division I National Champions in both 15s and sevens, Penn State leads the list with six players, while DI runner-up Central Washington produced five players of its own.
“The rising level of skill and ability in women's college players, in all divisions and across all regions of the country, made it difficult for the All-American coaching staff to narrow their selections into one final list,” said Associate Collegiate Director Tam Breckenridge. “However, these young women demonstrated excellence with their respective college programs and are most deserving of this very special honor.”
The increase of athleticism and skill in the women’s college ranks is evident in the mark the All-Americans recently left on the women’s national team, as a half-dozen players recognized today played valuable minutes for the Eagles during this summer’s Women's Rugby Super Series. Eight additional players helped the AIG Women’s Collegiate All-American Sevens side out-duel the rest of the competition at this past weekend’s Elite City Sevens to claim first-place.
