A thundering tackle by Lou Stanfill helped force a turnover for the Eagles at their 22 with the score 20-16. In previous games the respond would have been a kick to touch and let’s hold on.

Instead, MacGinty sent the ball wide to Wyles, who cut back against a desultory Canadian defensive line, broke through, and fed Mike Petri , who had been lying on the floor hurt a few seconds before. Petri kicked on, and while Taylor Paris recovered the ball, what he saw was all USA blue. On his right, Blaine Scully, ahead, Mike Petri, then Phil Thiel, and then Lou Stanfill. No one let him through, and that chase forced the kick which led to a Wyles counter, and quick ball (again!) out to Suniula. (As we mentioned before, Suniula could barely move his right arm, but did the job anyway.)

A try out of their own 22? So much for being conservative.
