2015 Boys HS Club Rankings Week 16
So, who's #1? Did Danville do enough by beating Kahuku and Granite Bay by a whisker? Or did Royal Irish, beating Penn and Granite Bay by slightly longer whiskers do the job?
Ultimately, we've chickened out somewhat and put Danville and Royal Irish as tied. Royal Irish has games to play in the Indiana playoffs, so they can raise or lower their stock depending on how they do, and they could certainly play well enough for us to nudge them to #1 outright. Danville, which we wish had played Royal Irish at some point, have two strikes against them - they did not play Jesuit, which could have been easily accomplished since both teams are in the same region, and they had such a tough time with Kahuku, who are really good, but we still expected more.
For Royal Irish, they, remember, lost by three to Gonzaga early in the season, and no one got that close to the Eagles, not even Jesuit. We guess that makes Gonzaga king of all things, single-school or multi-school. But since then we haven't seen Royal Irish play a lot of tough games ... or much at all, thanks to the weather. It's like we need more data.
Other major moves - West Shore showed us a lot, as did KC. Doylestown moves to #8 almost out of default as other teams slide. Liberty drops down after losing to 6-5 Budd Bay in the Washington state final, but we hold the entire state of Washington in high esteem, and so it's not a complete disaster. Budd Bay moves up, of course. We need a Washington champ v Oregon champ playoff. They used to have them, but Washington teams won just about every time, which is, in part, why we have Liberty and Budd Bay over Beaverton and Eastside.
West drops because Orlando drops due to NIT results. Florida as a whole takes a bit of a hit - not a killer blow, but we know where they stand a bit more now.
Union County out of New Jersey impressed us at the NIT Tier II. Åt the other end of the Top 50, results from the Virginia playoffs sees Hampton and Denbigh out and Fort Hunt in. Also in are two teams from Western NY, who are undefeated and tied each other, so Fairport (Rochester area) and Kenmore (Buffalo area) come in together.
