(David Barpal photo.) Blaine Scully's June was as breakout a June as you could imagine for a USA player. In fact, the entirety of the first half of 2014 has been a breakout time for him. Scully has taken over the right wing position for the Eagles. He is tough on defense and fearless getting the high ball. And, of course, he does something we need him to do, he scores tries. He scored three against Japan and two against Canada and they weren't gimme tries - he had a lot of work to do. And if you look at those tries you see a player aware of his situation - going low when in traffic, but then going high and diving for the tryline when a tackler is flying in (see below). He is smart, physically strong, and gaining in confidence. It's also fortunate he's with a club, Leicester, that agrees.
