The weather in Tennessee has been brutal and forced the cancelation of several games and a shift from playing two games against conference opponents to playing one.

Snow, ice, rain have all had their say, and it means the first part of the season has been depressingly short.

Still, the playoffs are on their way, and in this Tennessee opens up new playing opportunities for everyone. Higher-level teams have their championship to play for, but everyone plays for something, allowing teams that have struggled to see where they stack up against other teams that have struggled.

First comes the conference playoffs, and Tuesday South Doyle (ranked #21 by Goff Rugby Report as a single-school team) thumped Maryville 77-12 while Bearden also won their semi to make the final. South Doyle has been pretty dominant in the SMAC and looked the part

Meanwhile in West Tennessee, Christian Brothers (#49SS) has emerged as the top boys team, beating Tupelo 45-5 and Soulsville 31-10 before capping off their three-game season with a 10-0 shutout of White Station. That sets up a potential clash with Germantown, 3-0 in the Blue Division, after squeaking by PCA two weeks ago.

PCA has a chance to show they are championship caliber with their semi Saturday afternoon against Christian Brothers. Germantown can’t get complacent, facing White Station, a team that pushed Christian Brothers to the limit.

In Middle Tennessee it has, as usual, come down to Father Ryan and Ravenwood. With Father Ryan rebuilding a bit, Ravenwood beat their rivals 36-7 and look solid to march into the state semis.

So it looks like South Doyle, Ravenwood, and either Christian Brothers or Germantown will make the state semis, as long as they hold form. Father Ryan can still complete the quartet, but would face a powerful South Doyle in the state semis.
