Danville Brings Fullerton Trophy to NorCal
Danville Brings Fullerton Trophy to NorCal
Last week, Goff Rugby Report moved the Danville Lady Oaks from #4 to #3 on the Girls High School Top 20 ranking. And then over the weekend, the NorCal Varsity Gold leader traveled south to the Fullerton International Invitational and beat reigning champion Fallbrook, Canadian powerhouse Abbotsford, and local rival Pleasanton for the title.
On day one, Danville defeated Abbotsford 10-0, Fallbrook 14-0 and Desert Sands 15-0. The Lady Oaks started day two with a 26-7 Cup semifinal win over host Fullerton, while Pleasanton knocked off Fallbrook 5-3. The trophy was heading to the Bay Area regardless of victor, but Danville was better than Pleasanton in the final and claimed the title.
High School All American Leti Hingano was named tournament MVP, and she’s the emblem of the Lady Oaks. She’s aggressive and hard-hitting, and was a prominent player during the HSAA’s trophy-winning tour in Las Vegas. Sister Mata was also named to the all-tournament team, as was Daisy Manoa.
There were several All Americans selected to the 15-person team, including Fallbrook’s Michel Navarro and Lilly Durbin (also on the LVI-winning team), and Pleasanton’s Emily Roskopf. Fullerton had three girls on the squad: 16-year-old terror Isabel Manu; senior Tanner Quinto, who was ever-present around the pitch; and Nicole Wantin, the youngest member of the team at 14 years old.
But the team best represented on the list was Canada’s Abbotsford, which took five of the 15 slots.
Below is the girls’ all-tournament team, selected by Platinum Sponsor Serevi:
