Fallbrook celebrates winning the SoCal Varsity Red title.

Fallbrook capped off their SoCal Varsity Red season with a 33-20 defeat of Torrey Pines in the championship game.

Fallbrook finished the single-school season 6-1, losing only their opening match, and then rattling off six straight victories, including two over Torrey Pines to take the title.

Also in Northern California this weekend, the club season really got going. Among the results of note, Hawaiian Gardens defeated ICEF 12-5, and Back Bay defeated the Young Aztecs 24-6.

Pasadena beat Santa Clarita 29-22 to improve to 2-0.

In Northern California, Danville defeated Hayward 45-19 and Peninsula Green beat the Oakland Warthogs 48-10.  With their victory, Danville improved to 4-0 in the Boys Varsity Gold Bay Conference.

In the Sac Conference, Jesuit improved to 3-0 by beating CK McClatchy 49-5 on Friday and Lamorinda 41-22 on Saturday. Jesuit had already beaten previously undefeated Clayton Valley in the single-school division. The Jesuit coaches decided to run their 1st team in all three matches. Head Coach John Shorey said he wanted to prepare his team for the three-games-in-three-days ordeal of the NIT.

Good conditions allowed Jesuit to run, and their backline had an enjoyable weekend. Inside center Mike Link was all trouble for Lamorinda, and flanker Luke Bagley had a strong game.

“We will continue to play back-to-back games throughout the season to prepare for the best teams in the country in May,” said Shorey.

Speaking of the best teams in the country, Gonzaga HS in DC opened their season with a muddy clash with Charlotte Catholic, winning 41-5.

The state of Washington opened its league season with three games in their intense top league. Despite 20 points from Lui Sitama, Budd Bay fell 26-25 to Chuckanut. The Ferndale, Wash. team scored at the death and hit the conversion to win.

In another close game, the defending state champs, Seattle, were defeated by Kent 24-22. This was a huge result for Kent, which was in the 2nd division last year.

Liberty beat Eastside 32-17 after weathering a long period of pressure. Eastside mistakes led to some long-range Liberty tries, and that was enough.

And all the way across the country in Florida, Naples remains undefeated with a 16-0 defeat of the Trojans. The Cape Pirates improved to 4-1 with a 62-0 defeat of the Mavericks, while Orlando improved to 3-1 to keep pace with a 31-5 defeat of Boca Raton.
