Blair in for Harajly
The USA Men’s 7s team will make one change for the USA 7s in Las Vegas, with Ahmad Harajly switching teams to play for the USA Falcons in the LVI, while Pat Blair joins the full Eagles team.
This isn’t a demotion, USA Head Coach Mike Friday told Goff Rugby Report. Instead, it’s a chance for Harajly to get more game time.
The former Dearborn United Silverbacks player who now plays for the Detroit Tradesmen, Harajly made the USA team after impressing at USA Rugby’s semi-open recruitment camp. He got a few minutes on the field in Wellington.
“Ahmad will be joining the Falcons as we need him to play a full part in a team rather than a bit part,” said Friday.
Blair, who has been in and out of the USA team over the last couple of years is a former Central Washington University All American who started playing rugby with the Tacoma U19 program in Washington state.
Harajly will be with the USA Falcons playing in the Men’s Elite 7s; the Falcons were runners up to the Serevi Selects in 2014. The Falcons will be made up of players trying to make the Eagles.
“We will field the strongest squad we have available in Vegas as we did in Wellington,” said Friday. “The Falcons will be predominantly squad members that are competing for a space on the roster, along with the Vegas squad, to go to Hong Kong. They will get the opportunity to play in front of myself and Browny.”
