Gold Coast Latest - SBCC Shows How to Do It
It's the second week for the Gold Coast collegiate conference, and a little lesson for young fans out there.
It's frustrating to see a player make a big break, and, once he's been tackled, the expect try never comes. Usually, the support is just too slow. Even if the support is there, it's in the form of one or two players, who get in on the ruck, but no more players to use the line break to their advantage.
A long break becomes a slow slog inside the 22, and often a non-try. So here is Gold Coast team Santa Barbara City College with a long break - the GIF catches just the last part of a run that came from inside the SBCC half. But here, the entire SBCC team is there, and the scrumhalf smartly pops a ball to the first receiver, who is coming on at full pace.
The result, is a try the way it's supposed to be scored.
This wide-open, aggressive style bodes well for SBCC in the rest of the season. Santa Barbara City College takes on a Cal State Fullerton team that has had to deal with a lot of turnover. CSUF was hammered by Long Beach State 70-0 last week, but they should rebound a bit.
UC Irvine, the team giving up the try above, will take on Long Beach. SBCC and CSULB are favored in these games.
