Notre Dame College Wins MARC
The Notre Dame College Falcons clinched their second-straight MARC Conference title Sunday with a 31-17 victory over Rowan at Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Notre Dame and Rowan both won their semifinals on Saturday. For the Falcons it wasn't exactly a still, as IUP led 14-5 at halftime. But Notre Dame exploded for six tries in the second half to win 45-17. Cardell Terry scored two tries for Notre Dame in that game.
So to Sunday. Against Rowan the Falcons got two tries from Tom Walsh, 11 points from Lachlan Ruskin (three conversions and a try), and tries from Will Mount and Ronan Forrestal to win 31-17.
"Both games were played at a very high pace and featured hard, determined hitting by the players," said Notre Dame Head Coach Brian McCue. "Notre Dame was able to take command in the second half of both matches."
Lock Spencer Duncan controlled the lineouts for the Falcons while flankers Nick Joughin and Everett Smith were outstanding on defense. Center Zach Forro was a powerful runner in the midfield, while Forestal kept opponents backpedaling with some smart kicking.
That victory sets up Notre Dame to face Furman in the Round of 16. Rowan is not out of it, as they can get into the Round of 16 with a win over Tri-State champions Fairfield this coming weekend.
