KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The West Chester women's team extended its winning streak to three games Saturday by shutting out hosts Kutztown 60-0.
Senior Nicole Benedetti gave the Golden Rams an early lead when she peeled off a 50-meter run to score. WCU broke through for another long range try right after, when Sophia Schwab punished a Kutztown turnover and ran in it from 30 meters out to make it 12-0.
That's how it stayed until halftime.
Kutztown was able to put together some offensive pressure in the second half. However poorly timed penalties and turnovers stopped the Golden Bear offense in their tracks.
Meanwhile, Benedetti continued on pace to set a team single-season record in tries, as she touched down three more times in the game. Arielle Gantt and Katie Walston each scored two tries while sophomore Adriana Zeiders also touched down.
"I'm never happy with such a lopsided loss," said KU Head Coach Sean Cobb. "Going into the match I knew this would be a big test for KU. We wanted to play a top notch opponent before the playoffs and we certainly got that this weekend. We wanted a challenge and we got one. The good news in that this doesn't effect our conference play and gives us a really good idea of what we have to work on. The bad news in that we lost. In the long run the good is more important then the bad."
