AIC Beats BC in Clash of Unbeaten
American International College put their stamp on the ECRC with a 30-17 defeat of Boston College, the only other undefeated team in the conference.
It was wet and muddy, and the conditions proved challenging for offenses early on, and the score was only 7-5 at halftime. BC got on the board first with a try from Will Hock. But AIC answered with a try from Christian Adams, converted by fullback Bryce Neff.
BC almost scored at the break, and that might have changed momentum.
“It was a really good, really competitive game,” said AIC Head Coach Josh Macy. “It was physical and played with a lot of emotion. We had a tough time in the first half because it was so muddy. But in the second half the footing was better and I think that helped us. We scored our second try, a fantastic team try, and that gave us confidence.”
That try, scored by Gavan D”Amore-Morrison, made it 12-5, and then Jihad Khabir’s try made it 19-5. BC replied with a try from Allan Bronzo that inched the Eagles back within nine.
Then came a somewhat bizarre incident. Adams scored his second try to make it 26-10. After scoring, Adams was red-carded for stepping on a BC player after scoring. There seems to be mitigating circumstances to this incident and Adams may yet avoid a suspension. But he was out of the rest of the game. Shorthanded, AIC scored once more, and then Danny Schatzman scored for BC to finish it up.
“BC played all the way to the end,” said Macy. “But I was pleased with how our guys played. We stuck to our defensive scheme and put ourselves in a really good position to win.”
BC Rob Conway was disappointed with the loss, but liked a lot of what he saw.
“Defensively we played great,” he said. “We were able to shut down the impressive attack, but with one lapse of judgement and a quick turnover they were under the posts. We dropped the ball after we crossed their tryline under the posts on the half time whistle. Conditions dried up in the second half and they were able to spread the ball more. We made more tackles today than the previous games combined.”
Nick Savage and Danny Schatzman were standouts for BC.
