4 Still Undefeated in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Girls Rugby (WGR) finished its second league weekend, and four of the 10 teams are still undefeated.

Between Divine Savior Holy Angels’ two teams – varsity’s in the North-South Conference, and JV’s in the Classic Five – the Dashers are 4-0 in league. The elite side beat Brookfield (1-1) 55-0 and was highlighted by senior prop Taylor Bragg-Brock’s 70-meter try. WGR wrote: Any time a front row player breaks repeated tackle attempts, outruns players, and scores a long try, its memorable.

Also in North-South, Fond du Lac got its first regular-season win with a 50-point shutout over Appleton (0-2). The Sirens got multi-try performances out of Alaina Passarella and Adriana Ramirez, while Kristina Moul continued her noteworthy goal-kicking. Emma Conrad and Brittany were the picture of support – on either side of the ball – and were big players in Fond du Lac’s big win.

Leading the Classic Five is Catholic Memorial, which banked league win number two with a 50-5 victory over Vernon (0-2). Junior Kelsey Gustafon and sophomore Niina Sjogren came through with the tries, while Vernon’s senior flyhalf, Lexi Prusheik, prevented the shutout with a five-pointer of her own.

In non-conference crossover action, Kettle Morraine (0-1) enjoyed a much needed win against Oak Creek (0-1). Even though captain Libby Shuebert was absent, teammates Lindsey Hillmer (three tries) and Courtney Crouse (two tries) came through on the scoreboard. Morgan Saenz was near-perfect off the tee, slotting four of five conversions in the 33-12 win.

Round three of league starts Friday, when the Capital Five undefeateds – Catholic Memorial and DSHA JV – face off at 4:30 p.m CDT. Muskego will take on Kettle Morraine on Saturday morning. In the North-South Conference, DSHA will play Appleton at 11 a.m., and Fond du Lac vs. Oak Creek will follow at 12:30 p.m.

The WGR semifinals will be contested on Oct. 18, and the state championship, held at the Milwaukee Sports Complex under the lights, will be held Sunday, Oct. 26
