NCRC D1AA League Remains as Tight as Ever
NCRC D1AA League Remains as Tight as Ever
Last week GRR outlined how tight the NCRC is, and maybe a few questions were answered this past week, but not a lot.
Boise State was able to hold off Oregon State 27-22, while Oregon beat Washington 14-12. What that did was this:
Men D1AA Spring 2025 Rankings Week 2 and a Detailed Look at NCRC
NCRC | W | L | T | PF | PA | PD | BT | BL | Pts |
WWU | 3 | 1 | 0 | 142 | 33 | 109 | 3 | 1 | 16 |
Boise State | 3 | 2 | 0 | 117 | 146 | -29 | 3 | 0 | 15 |
Oregon State | 2 | 3 | 0 | 129 | 124 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 12 |
Washington | 2 | 3 | 0 | 82 | 122 | -40 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
Oregon | 2 | 3 | 0 | 50 | 95 | -45 | 0 | 2 | 10 |
This is about as tight a standings as you'd want to see. Oregon's win over Washington was a close-loss bonus point for UW, just as their first meeting was a close-loss bonus point for the Ducks. Bust the head-turner may well be Boise State.
The Broncos were smoked on the road by both Western Washington and Oregon State in the fall. Those games came after warmup matches (wins) against Utah State and Utah that left the team hit with injuries. And when the hurricane in Florida forced the deployment of another player, they kind of realized they were snake-bit.
"It have been involved in this conference since 2018, and this is the craziest NCRC I have ever been a part of," said Boise State Coach Kyle Curry. "We had those tough games but we feel pretty good now. This is just such a tough league. This spring is very important for our program, we need to win our upcoming match league matches, and we might need some help with Western Washington, to win the league."
Boise State ran out to a 24-5 lead over Oregon State only to see the tenacious Beavers come back.
Freshman Vance Gooch, juniors James Hodges and Jack Demora, and senior Thomas Keay all scored tries. Demora and Wyatt Woodall on the wings were very strong defensively. Keay has been outstanding running the attack and being a leader.
"Everyone keys on him and he still makes plays," said Curry, who said Keay was All American level and should receive all the accolades.
"His kicks and offensive attacks are flawless," he said.
So what we have is no team undefeated and no team winless. WWU has four games left and everyone else three games to play. Curry said his side—despite the fact that their closest conference away game is eight hours away—will be ready to play on the road. They host WWU and know they will need to rock up at UW and UO.
"Everyone knows we have to fund-raise and deal with the travel," said Curry. "It's tough but it's what we need to do to play at this level. We try to avoid driving and fly instead but it does cost money and it does require a big commitment. But we feel good."
