SOC Raptors Win Impromptu SoCal Tournament

SOC Raptors went 3-0 and gave up zero points.

With the Storer Classic canceled, several high school teams, plus some that were already traveling to SoCal and couldn't cancel, met up for an impromptu tournament over the weekend in Southern California.

Sam McMillan (SOC Raptors), Sean Hannon (Murrieta HS and Raptors), and Josh Williams (Oceanside HS and Thunder) worked together to create an alternate event that played in Oceanside on Saturday and Temecula on Sunday.

The Utah teams West Valley Warriors and Olympus had to make the planned trip anyway and they embraced the event, which turned into a great weekend of HS rugby.

Teams played games of two 20-minute halves, playing two games on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The SOC Raptors entered two teams and did well despite coming into the game with just three practices under their belts.

The Raptors A side, which was the more experienced group, went 3-0, beating the West Valley Warriors 22-0 in the final.

West Valley surprised many with a 24-12 win over Oceanside HS. Led by former Raptors Coach Allan Flandro, West Valley was sparked by scrumhalf Andy Flandro.

For the current Raptors, center Will Briggs and fullback Jesse Torres played some inspired open-field rugby. Torres unleashed an impressive kicking game, as well. Among the forwards, No. 8 Tyrone Cullers and lock Joe Lambert were strong on defense for a team that didn't allow a single point.

Raptors Bs did well in taking 5th over Olympus. Oceanside beat Rancho Cucamonga for 3rd.
