Lamorinda Shows Well in Win over Bishop O'Dowd

Players of the game, left to right, Lama Tongauiha, OC Lehner, Will Paluumah, and Felix Davis.

The Lamorinda club pulled off an impressive win this weekend, beating Bishop O'Dowd 34-19 in Northern California.

Lamo started slowly but were able to find their rhythm thanks in part to their all-star-level players. Captain and lock Lama Tongauiha set the tone with his imposing physical play. Prop Sana Saga, last year's Lamo rookie of the year, also was a bit of a battering ram. Out wide wing Will Paumau was fast and elusive.

For Bishop O'Dowd, their select-side players such as center Elliot Lewis, No. 8 OC Lehner, freshman prop Eli Burnside, and flyhalf Felix Davis were very good, but the power of Lamorinda's carriers made the difference.

In longstanding rugby tradition the Lamorinda team selected Lehner and Davis as Bishop O'Dowd's players of the game. BOD, meanwhile, gave the nod to Tongahuila and Will Paluumah from Lamorinda.

"I am very proud of my guys they stood tall for most the match," said BOD Head Coach Ray Lehner. "Tackling those big boys takes its toll on your legs and we just ran out of gas."

Young players Elliot Gerbelot at flanker and Vita Taupaki at prop helped spark a bit of comeback after Lamo fell behind at halftime. In the second half Lemorinda was pretty relentless.
