Agreement Apparently Reached for Rugby Ohio Changes
Rugby Ohio will remain Rugby Ohio after a compromise solution was reached between the State Rugby Organization and its oversight group, USA Youth & High School.
A hearing was scheduled for today, January 9, to discuss the fact that Rugby Ohio (like some other SROs) was not in compliance with World Rugby rules because the organization did not have free and democratic elections for seats on its Board.
Efforts by USAYHS to rectify that were met, initially, with some foot-dragging, but, according to sources, this has all been addressed.
Rugby Ohio will hold elections within a couple of weeks. The elections will be accomplished via one club-one vote. There may be a regional aspect to some of the board seats.
Current Rugby Ohio leadership had expressed some concern that complete turnover of the Board in one vote could leave a Board without any experienced members. So the solution there is that however many Board seats need to be filled, a super-majority must be from the member votes, while a super-minority (no more than 40 33%) would remain on the Board until elections later this year.
The total number of Board members is yet to be determined.
Speed is of the essence, as the Spring season will soon be upon us, and it's important to have a new Board installed, and maybe any urgent business taken care of, before players and teams have to register. However, there appears to be a way forward.
