Hough Huskies Finally Take the Field ... and Win
The Hough Huskies finally got to play an actual rugby game in North Carolina's school league Thursday night, and celebrated a win as well.
After their first two opponents canceled on them, the Huskies were able to play against a tough Marvin Ridge side this week.
Despite an early red card to Hough, the Huskies won 27-5.
Flyhalf Max Colson scored a try and added three conversions and two penalty goals for 17 points on his own.
Scrumhalf Porter Kuebler was outstanding on the evening and worked well with Colson to run the attack.
Backed by strong work on defense, as well as with ball in hand, from TJ Kieffer, Caden Craddock, Andre Brown, and Kade Frederick, the Huskies were able to overcome being shorthanded.
"A very spirited performance," said Head Coach Bruce Colson.
Marvin Ridge came into the came with some injuries picked up a couple of weeks ago and so are working their way through them. Certainly tries have been hard to come by ince opening the season against South Meck.
But for Hough, this was a crucial game because it was th only game they actually played before the Christmas break. Coach Colson had every reason to want to see his team in action against an opponent.
Now 3-0 (with two forfeit wins) they can actually point to something.
Also this week South Meck moved to 3-0 (having beaten Corinth and Marvin Ridge) with a 40-5 official scoreline over Ardrey Kell.
