The San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club will once again send a team to the World Club 7s, to be held at Thomond Park Stadium, Limerick, Ireland August 9-10.

SFGG is in Pool C, where they will face off against the tournament hosts Munster, legendary Fijian 7s side Daveta, and the Moscow Saracens.

This will be the second year in a row SFGG has participated in a World Club 7s event, after being a part of the inaugural event held in London last summer. There is also a World Club 7s tournament in London a week later. The Bay Area club will be coming into the weekend with plenty of momentum after having captured the inaugural Pacific Rugby Premiership 15s title this May, and having just recently won the Northern California summer 7s series.

The team will be coached by Alex Houser, head coach of SFGG's PRP championship side, who also recently guided Arkansas State to a collegiate 7s national title, and legendary former USA 7s player and longtime SFGG 7s coach Jone Naqica, who still ranks second on the all time scoring list for the 7s Eagles.

The squad boasts plenty of talent and a huge college influence. Six players are former Cal Bears, while two played their college rugby at St. Mary's. Co-captain Neil Barrett is joined by his brother and capped Eagle Danny (both Cal alumni), and rangy back Andre Coquillard, powerful 7s prop Brendan Daly, snappy Hunter Frisinger, and tough prop Grant Hyjer all played for Cal. Also a co-captain is Volney Rouse, who has been a longtime SFGG player after graduating from St. Mary's. He is joined by Bubba Jones, who played with the Gaels this past season.

Mose Timoteo seemed set to be the SFGG captain, but the former Eagle withdrew due to injury.

Also on the team is former USA 7s player Jack Halalilo, San Mateo product Pila Huihui, and club president and USA hopeful Bruce Thomas.

"We are very excited to be taking part in the World Club 7s event in Limerick and are grateful to Terry Burwell and the rest of the event organizers for having us back for a second year," said Houser. "We are honored to be included in such a top notch event and look forward to taking the field and competing against some of the best clubs and players from around the globe."
