EIRA Girls Open European Tour With Win in Spain
EIRA Girls Open European Tour With Win in Spain
Eagle Impact Rugby Academy girls U18s opened up their tour of Spain with a victory over the Catalonia regional U19 team.
EIRA will also be taking a girls team to Ireland this summer.
Catalonia is the region that centers on Barcelona and borders Andorra and, crucially, Southern France, and they share some cultural aspects of life, including a love of rugby.
EIRA just recently arrived in Europe and got in two good sessions at the Camp Municipal De Rugby La Foixarda in Barcelona. It has been a bit of a whirlwind for the team as they arrived in Spain just 36 hours before game time.
Two sessions, apparently, were enough, as the EIRA girls won 26-5. Tahna Wilfley, Erin Croke, Teagan Barth, and Lucy Walker all scored tries for the tourists, while Caitlin Moroney converted two and Molly Kennedy added one.
The game was played in great spirits and at a high pace and the Eagle Impact payers did very well to create a good team atmosphere, adapt to a new country and unfamiliar opponents, and were ready to play.
Twenty-six players from 13 states are on this tour with eight having toured twice before with EIRA and 10 more having been on the 2023 tour to Ireland. So this is a fairly experienced touring side.
Next up are two games on Jul 9: Valencia, Campo de Rugby del Río Tramo III and then after that
on July 9, and then Santiboiana, Unió Esportiva Santboiana.
