We already have some results worth discussing here.

Archbishop Spalding defeated Calvert Hall to win the Maryland IAA title Wednesday night. Spalding had to come back to tie the game 20-20 at the end of regulation—Max Haynes scoring late to lock up the score. After that the game went to penalty kicks, and successful kicks from Reid Gerber, Dylan Thomas, and Paul Plauger won the kick contest 3-1 for Spalding.

BC High beat St. John's Prep 20-10 on Wednesday.

Fullback Charlie Thomison opened the scoring, finishing off a some team phase work. Prep responded with a converted try under the posts and added a penalty goal to lead 10-5.

The second half saw BC High control the possession and tempo; scrumhalf Braxton Blind finished a superb back move that went 50 meters, starting with an offload from his brother Colton Blind to tie the match 10-10. Captain Mikey Smith then scored twice in about 10 minutes. That made it 20-10. The  BC High defense worked hard to earn turnovers deep in their end.

This was a tough game for both. BC High Head Coach Paul Carty said "as a team we must be more disciplined, but it’s a credit to our defensive work to overcome the penalty count."

Meanwhile, this coming weekend we crown a couple more champions: Washington, Cascade (a league covering eastern Washington, part of Idaho, and part of eastern Oregon), and Oregon. We've got the New Jersey final, too. And we also have the Pacific Coast invitational, which will provide two really challenging games for the teams involved.
