Layton Christian Impressive in Shutout Win
Layton Christian put down a market over the weekend as they beat Herriman 28-0 in Utah.
This is most definitely a message result, because while Herriman rarely loses, they most definitely rarely get shut out.
With the win LCA is now 3-0 in Utah league play. And, they have not played an easy schedule. They beat Highland 50-5 (and Highland put a big scare into Herriman), beat East 45-17 (East is now 3-1), and Herriman 28-0 (Herriman is also 3-1).
After losing three games at the Boys HS National Championships by a total of five points (25-24 to Granite Bay, 14-12 to Charlotte Cardinals, and 28-26 to Pendleton), LCA is poised to take a massive step forward.
"Herriman is a great team," said LCA Head Coach Tongia Vaitaki. "We came into game with the mindset to put pressure on them both defense and offense."
Captain Freddie Fekitoa led the forward and made several huge tackles. He was a solid runner with the ball as were flanker Metui Kaufusi and No. 8 Nisi Hiliau.
The dynamic midfield of Soni Talanoa and Faga Havili provided options for flyhalf Justin Sau.

But, said Fekitoa, "the name of the game was to put pressure on them all night. We executed the play when we made a turnover and use our skills out with our backline and take advantage of the overlaps and our speed guys on the outside. Freddie Fekitoa's leadership led in the front and inspired our boys to fight until the last minute. But at the end of the day, it’s the effort from everyone they put forth, each player contributes and do their job well on the field."
