Marin, SFGG Take Big Victories in NorCal
Two results out of Northern California HS Rugby turned heads this weekend.
Marin, on a roll and having already logged a couple of notable wins, got by Danville 25-15.
Marin received four yellow cards in the first half but still pulled out yet another difficult win on the road. At one point Marin was down to 12 players on the field. Danville did manage to score during that time, but only once.
"Our coaching staff couldn't be more proud of these boys," said Marin Coach John Vantress.
Marin now is 5-0 in the Northern California Premier League. They get next week off before a tour of New Zealand in April.
Meanwhile, SFGG came out of a rain-soaked game with De La Salle with a 26-22 victory. DLS coaches said they did not adjust well to the rain. Certainly SFGG, which has learned its rugby amisd the mists of fogs of San Francisco Bay, weren't too fazed.
SFGG made it relatively simple and challenged DLS to stop them.
"I think all of us were in need of some humble pie and SFGG was serving it up," said DLS Head Coach Derek Holmberg. "This will be a turning point in our season and just what the doctor ordered. We need to get some key guys back from the injured list and we should be able to make a nice run in the end."
