LIU Hires Dee Nash to be New Head Coach for Women's Team
Long Island University has announced that it has hired Dee Nash as the new Head Coach for the women's rugby program.
This comes after LIU parted ways with Joe Rasmus in December.
Nash is a former Women's Premier League champion with the Colorado Gray Wolves and also has coached at Northeastern University and University of Denver.
"Today is an exciting day for Long Island University women's rugby," Director of athletics Ryan Kelly said in the college's statement. "Coach Nash's past experiences as a professional athlete and collegiate coach will have an outstanding impact on our student-athletes. We look forward to the growth of our program and Division I women's rugby on Long Island."
Nash was the assistant for the University of Denver men's team while also playing for the Gray Wolves. She has also coached with The Rugby Advantage select side and the Rocky Mountain Magic women's team. She also worked as assistant coach for Northeastern from 2017-19.
She also has served as the USA Women's National Team logistics manager.
"I am thrilled about the opportunity to take on the head coaching position for the women's rugby team at Long Island University," Nash said. "Ryan Kelly has been immensely supportive of women's rugby at LIU, helping me transition smoothly into this role. We are eager to continue the positive momentum from the club's recent growth as a developing program. Drawing from my experiences as both a player and coach at various successful rugby clubs, I am confident in my ability to contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Sharks."
Long Island plays in NIRA's DI and won their first 15s game ever in that division this past fall. However, a small roster meant injuries crushed their chances of finishing the season strong and they were forced to forfeit games due to a lack of players.
