Playoff Decider Weekend in D1 College Rugby?
Huge weekend in major college sports.
Here's what this means.
We talked a lot about the NCR D1 playoff picture and for Queens University, this weekend's meeting with Life University could carry a lot of weight. If the Royals do well, they are better positioned for a playoff spot.
Who Makes the NCR D1 Playoffs?
St. Bonaventure wants to be the top NCR D1 team in the Rugby East and they can't overlook Mount St. Mary's.
There's still a chase in the DIA habitat on who is still in the playoff conversation in the spring. Army needs to follow up on a good win over Queens with a game against a tough Kutztown team. Mary Washington vs Penn State is huge in that respect.
Navy hosts Air Force in the first game if the Commander-in-Chief Trophy, which is the series between Navy, Army, and Air Force. This game is the Lt. Col. Kevin Shea Memorial Rugby Cup and an important one for both.
“We are very excited to welcome Air Force to Annapolis for our annual Lt. Col. Kevin Shea Trophy match," said Navy Director of Rugby Gavin Hickie. "We have a welcome break from our conference games and will look to try a few different
combinations against Air Force. Some of our guys will get their first start of the season and they are raring to go."
Another big event if the Battle of the Mitten between Michigan and Michigan State. The MSU Spartans have a chance to clinch 1st in the Big 10 East with a victory.
Spartan Surprise, Hoosier Depth Lead Big 10
Wisconsin at Illinois is another one as this confirms who makes the semis as the #2 team from the Big 10 West.
The top reason we've seen this season for a cancelation ... a car recall. A Ford recall has affected Ohio State University's fleet of vans, and so there's no transportation available for OSU Rugby to travel to Davenport.
Also important:
Texas at Baylor is an early Red River game but a useful one. Texas defeated Oklahoma in their opener there 24-21 behind some solid showings from Alex Teague and Oli Duthie.
Brown at Dartmouth is the Ivy League final.
And we also went into detail into the Rocky Mountain here: Rocky Mountain Coming to a Head, But Challenges Await
