HS Games This Weekend: School Team Showdowns
Some teams are kicking off their season this week, with Vienna playing Springfield/West End in Virginia being a really early runout.
Meanwhile we're now into the heart of the Texas season and Strake Jesuit is at Dallas Jesuit—that's one to keep a close eye on.

Competitive Florida Conference Looks to Week 3
In the Southern California Interscholastic Rugby Federation, the top two teams, both undefeated, are facing of with Friday night's St. Augustine at Cathedral Catholic. Last week the Saints beat Mira Costa and found themselves under some pressure—halftime score was 26-17.
But St. Augustine ran out five unanswered tries in the second half. James Root has been consistent all season long in leading the forwards and scored for the Saints. Center Caelyb Aguirre continued to get better and play well, while freshman Sebastian Tucker was a force on offense and defense, scoring a key first-half try to retake the momentum.
That second-half surge puts them in good shape for the Charity Cup at Cathedral.
Cathedral had some significant turnover this year and Head Coach Glenn Irvine was concerned about what his team could do. But they did return 11 starters and only three seniors starting in the backline.
"We're not as big size-wise as last year but our speed and rugby IQ has increased," said Irvine. "Our focus is on attacking and our scrumhalf, Spencer Huntley, has done a great job leading the attack."
Practice sessions include 45 minutes of the JV versus Varsity and that allows young players to put their hand up. Cathedral's depth is why they will be a strong team every year in SCIRF. They have 65 players this year and, said Irvine, that allows the coaching staff to plan ahead.
As for now? They have seen improvement in the lineouts, the kicking game, and execution in the backline.
"We'll continue to build on that strength going forward," said Irvine.
