Hough Win Highlights North Carolina Single-School Opening Weekend
North Carolina's single-school team league kicked off this past weekend as the league of 13 teams is in action.
Not all the teams started the season ready to go, as Clayton/Corinth and Caps/Broughton both won via forfeit. Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg and Charlotte Catholic ran out to a 21-21 tie.
The two winners in actual results were Hough and Marvin Ridge.
Marvin Ridge is a relatively new player on the single-school scene in North Carolina and beat Ardrey Kell 37-17.
The Hough Huskies, meanwhile, are looking to build on a good 2021-22 season and beat a strong Myers Park team 39-19.
Hough ran out to a 24-7 lead at halftime with the Huskies forwards standing strong against a big Myers Park pack. With the forwards getting possession, the backs had a chance to shine.
This they did, scoring four tries in the first half. Captain Zach Colson led the way and scored a brilliant individual try to boot.
Myers Park mounted a comeback in the second half with two tries to get within a score. But the Hough backs again broke it open.
In the forwards Christian Johnson and Jacob Eroh bookended an extremely solid and mobile front row and George Prinsloo was a physical force.
Head Coach Bruce Colson called it a solid start to the season.
This coming weekend Myers Park looks to bounce back against Charlotte Catholic. Caps/Broughton plays Laney, a team making its season debut, while Hough takes on Clayton/Corinth. Providence faces Marvin Ridge and South Meck plays another team kicking off its season in Langtree Academy.
