D1 Men's College Rankings Week 9
D1 Men's College Rankings Week 9
It was a bit of a tough week for making these rankings because we do have some teams we'd like to move into the Top 50, but those ranked in the lower reaches actually did pretty well.
So Nazareth, West Chester, and Salisbury all have to wait. But just so you know ... we're thinking of you the whole time.
Kentucky's tie with Ohio State also threw the rankings for a bit of a loop. It's not automatic that teams that tie have to be deadlocked in the rankings. There's a totality of results to consider. We can't completely forget Kentucky's loss to Thomas More or Ohio State's win over Notre Dame. OSU also beat Tennessee, but that was 12-10, so OSU vs SCRC opposition sees them at 39-37. OSU is also injury-hit, and the rankings don't care about injuries ... they care about what team you have at the moment.
Brown moves back up after a) beating Dartmouth convincingly this week and b) we had to mke up for the fact we moved them down too far last week. Why? We used the wrong result (B side won 14-12). The technical term for this kind of move is "a mistake" and we're fixing it this week.
Coming up this week keep an eye on Western Washington vs Boise State, the biggest game in the Pacific Northwest this fall. We also have Arkansas at Kansas, the Liberty D1AA playoffs, the Big 10 semifinals, and ... AND ... Army at Navy.
The Goff Rugby Report Rankings are brought to you by Next Phase Rugby. This app, downloadable at NextPhaseRugby.Com, is useful even for small, D2, and club college teams. These teams can download the app and set up a team profile—you may not have money or admission tags, but you can talk about your school's academics, your team culture, and your coaching. those are all things high school rugby players want to know about.
