Gamebreakers in Men's D1 College Rugby This Week
Our list of top performers in Men's D1 college rugby this past weekend includes players who just do the dirty work up front, players who play defense, and big scorers.
Here are our Gamebreakers for this week.
Billy Tenney, BYU
Brigham Young’s scrum was fairly dominant during their two-game trip to Colorado and prop Tenney was a central factor to that and set up the platform through which the Cougars could launch their potent attack.
Tomas Casares, Thomas More
In a massively physical test with Iowa Central CC, the Saints' No. 8 stood strong and was a key ground-gainer as Thomas More beat the Tritons.
Oliver Russell, Marian
Marian held off Wheeling in a close one and Russell helped make that happen doing all the unglamorous work in the rucks and on defense.
Lachlan McDonald, Notre Dame College
The Falcons' flyhalf directed the attack and scored twice as NDC beat Virginia Tech.
Chris Durnan, Iona
The Gaels No. 8 led from the front as Iona beat a tough Syracuse team.
Lucas Pattinson, Army
The West Point No. 8 was a strong leader, won lineouts, and was hugely influential in a defensive effort that was key to Army's victory over St. Bonaventure.
Josh Shetler, Tennessee
The UT captain and outside center has been an outstanding leading influence in the Volunteers, kicked goals, and was dangerous with the ball in hand as his side shut out Kennesaw State. With three tries and six conversions Shetler also scored 27 points on the day.
Patrick McMahon, Boston College
McMahon scored vs Yale to follow up on his five tries the week before. McMahon's five tries vs. Tufts set a BC record, breaking that of try machine Connor Robinson.
Ben Haugh, Navy
The No. 8 scored and set the work-rate example as Navy shut out Air Force.
Dillan Renner, Colorado
In a loss to BYU, but one where CU showed strong, the Buffs fullback made some key defensive plays and was effective in handling kicks.
Rocky Rose, St. Bonaventure
Yes St. Bonaventure lost to Army but it was a very competitive game and Rose was monstrous in tight at lock.
Gave Riordan, Dartmouth
Riordan led Dartmouth to their 24-12 win over Northeastern with two tries.
Vince Carso, Ohio State
The OSU scrumhalf scored and set up several as the Buckeyes beat Michigan.
Mike Davitt, Binghamton
The Binghamton flyhalf scored 38 of his team's 113 points with four tries and nine conversions.
