Woodlands Finding Ways to Win in California Tour
The Woodlands is on tour in California and produced a series of a solid results on the road.
On Sunday Woodlands played the San Diego Legion Crusaders U19 Academy side at Chula Vista. While a score was reported this was a short session based on set piece and not a full game. No kicks, and lots of set piece work. Woodlands scored three tries and gave up one.
Then the teams played a 60-minute scrimmage, and in the fits 40 minutes, the Woodlands D1 side won 14-7.
The Woodlands D2 players took the field after that and the Crusaders came away 12-0 winners in a 20-minute session.
Both Woodlands and Crusaders were missing a couple of players who might have started.
On Tuesday night Woodlands played Thunder Rugby in a midweek game. Woodlands struggled to avoid penalties in the breakdown and were heavily penalized (32-6) compared to Thunder. Still, Woodlands led 12-3 before getting a yellow card that opened up a chance for Thunder to score.
Final score was 12-10 in a physical clash between two highly-ranked teams.
The D2 sides met up and this was equally close, Woodands winning 14-12.
