Gamebreakers HS Rugby Feb 24
Gamebreakers HS Rugby Feb 24
We’ll be back to weekly Gamebreakers soon, but her now is a bit of Gamebreaker acknowledgement for high school boys players from February.
Kai'Ron Young, Wellington Wizards
Wellington’s strong start goes through Young, who has directed the attack brilliantly from the scrumhalf position. He’s electric.
Andrew Newel, Jesuit New Orleans
Consistently excellent, Newel plays flyhalf for the Blue Jays and his combination of skill and space awareness and his ability to make tacklers miss have all sparked their early-season wins.
Niko Santos, Okapi
Atop the Florida league, Okapi is there because they take advantage of opportunity and they defend really well. Santos fuels that opportunism at flyhalf and he has set up his teammates for a 4-0-1 lead.
Jake Foster, Strake Jesuit
A power-running, try-scoring center, Foster is a go-to attacking option for Strake.
Benito Abbiati, Okapi
With Okapi having played five games they get two nods, and Abbiati leads the defensive charge for the Wanderers from the back row. After allowing 17 points in their opener, Okapi has limited opposition to 10 points a game.
Ethan Scott, Woodlands
The Woodlands No. 8 was probably the best forward on his team’s two-game trip to Kansas City, providing massive go-forward and setting the platform for others to score.
Cade Crist, Torrey Pines
The Torrey Pines hooker covers most of what he needs to do, getting the job done in set piece, playing defense, and executing plays in open field. Torrey Pines is 5-0 in league play.
Ami Amiatu-Tanoi, Carlsbad
The No. 8 for Carlsbad, which is 4-0 in league play, Amiatu-Tanoi has been among the best players of the game in every game he has played.
Sone Aupiu, St. Anthony
An imposing outside center for St. Anthony, Aupiu has become an effective distributor as well as a powerful runner and ground-gainer.
Jonty Lee, Torrey Pines
Another standout for Torrey Pines over their opening series of games, Lee is the flyhalf and controls the attack with poise.
Solomon Williams, Carlsbad
The flyhalf for Carlsbad has run the attack but, more importantly, the defense in impressive fashion as Carlsbad enters the playoffs.
Davis Ferner, South Mecklenburg
The South Meck scrumhalf raised his game at a key part of the season to help lead South Meck to a and man of the match
JJ Tofaeono, De La Salle
Tofaeono scored a key try vs Jesuit Sacramento and that’s just one small indication of his contribution as he is also a strong setup man and has played strong defense for DLS.
Luke Schaefer, Tempe
Tempe’s solid start started at the front row where Schaefer has been a force.
Lucca Deocarizza, Crean Lutheran
Consistently the best back for Crean during a strong winter season, Deocarizza's ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over is matched with a solid defensive effort every time out.
Saia Pongi, East Palo Alto
A brilliant flyhalf with a scoring touch, Pongi is also the leader for EPA as their captain and seta the tone defensively.
