D1A Rankings Latest: A New #1 and How GRR's Vote Compares

The tie between Arizona and Grand Canyon shakes things up a bit. J. Dalton Photography.

The D1A rankings are back for 2022 and while we didn't give you an update last week we have one for this week.

It's interesting to see that the voters have chosen a new #1, and also that while we at GRR (we are one of the voters) have had a different #1 from the overall poll, the new #1 isn't our new #1.

Here's the official poll:

There you have it—Saint Mary's moves to #1 and the team the Gaels beat in a close game in December, Life University, moves up to #2. Cal drops to #3. The voting, as we understand it, is pretty close. If one voter changes one opinion we could see another shuffle.

Anyway, here's what we are GRR voted:

D1A Feb 7 - GRR Vote
1 Army
2 Saint Mary's
3 Cal
4 Life
5 Lindenwood
6 BYU
7 Navy
8 Central Washington
9 Ohio State
10 Indiana
11 Davenport
12 Arkansas State
13 Penn State
14 Colorado State
15 Texas A&M
16 Arizona
17 Grand Canyon
18 UCLA
19 Colorado
20 Cal Poly
21 Michigan State
22 Utah
23 Baylor
24 Utah Valley
25 Air Force

As you can see, we don't have a significant difference. The main thing is that we have Army at #1 because we feel if you have a team that wins its conference, and beats some well-regarded out-of-conference teams. As we said before, the only blemish on their record was a loss to Dartmouth that can be explained by some lineup choices.

We have the Big 10 teams a little higher than the consensus, but not much, and Texas A&M and Baylor significantly higher. We have Arizona and Arkansas State three spots lower and Army and Colorado State three spots higher. Basically it looks like we put more credence in the Arizona-GCU tie and Army's win over Lindenwood.
