MARC Finishes Season, Hawks Win and NCR Playoff Matchups Set
St. Jose[h's has won the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference after a 36-0 shutout of Rutgers.
The Hawks exploded for five tries in the first half and looked set to gallop away, but cruised through the second half as they look ahead now to the NCR playoffs.
Also in the MARC, Rowan and West Chester played to a 14-14 tie. The teams entered halftime deadlocked 0-0 in what was clearly a defensive tussle, and neither could break away.
Meanwhile, Salisbury and James Madison had the opposite experience, combining for 86 points as the Sharks downed JMU 46-40.
With all of that done, the MARC now has finally seen its top four teams separate, somewhat. St. Joe's ends up 6-1 with six bonus points and 30 points. West Chester and Rowan both end up 5-1-1, with the Rams getting 2nd by virtue of an extra bonus point. CORRECTION: We said Rowan was third but in fact due to the tiebreaker Salisbury gets 3rd. We apologize for the incorrect information.
So in the playoffs next week St. Joe's will face Binghamton. Another Correction. Because West Chester has to be closer to campus for exams, WCU will NOT fill the MARC #2 slot to play Virginia Tech but will instead play Buffalo in New Jersey. and Rowan Salisbury will take V-Tech in the NCR DIAA quarterfinals bracket in Knoxville, Tenn. The other quarterfinal is Boise State vs Nazareth.
