Army Wins C-in-C Trophy, Looks to Lindenwood
Army Wins C-in-C Trophy, Looks to Lindenwood
Army beat Air Force 72-23 Saturday to win the Commander-in-Chief Trophy.
The trophy, which isn't an actual trophy but should be, is figuratively given to the US service academy with the best record among the three teams. Army beat both Navy and Air Force to garner bragging rights for the year. It's also interesting to see that all three games were played in the fall. Often one has to wait months to find out who gets this honor.
Commander-in-Chief Trophy Games:
September 11: Navy 65 Air Force 0 (Shea Cup)
October 23: Army 24 Navy 17
November 6: Army 72 Air Force 23

For Head Coach Matt Sherman is was a nice cap on a fall that saw Army sweep through the Rugby East. The only blemish they have is a loss to Dartmouth in a non-conference game.
"We had our depth tested again because we have a short week to turn around and face Lindenwood," said Sherman. "And I was really gratified to see how the players handled the game. It was close in the first half and they didn't panic and show a lot of confidence and poise in that game."
Lock Riley Smith put in a physical performance in the game, and fullback Jonny Haley and center Nathan Gould put their hands up.
And those hands will be needed as Army looks to cap off its fall with a Friday night clash with Lindenwood.
"We're really fortunate to have that game," said Sherman. "We expect to have lessons that come out of it to help guide us as we go forward. Playing the top teams can always teach you so much. So it's a great opportunity to see where we stand."
Right now, they're standing pretty tall.
