On September 21 Mark Numbers was introduced as the new Executive Director of Utah Youth Rugby, a state-based organization under USA Rugby and World Rugby.

In this position Numbers will oversee the organization of rugby programs for ages 5 through 18 and ensure the mission of Utah Youth Rugby is met throughout the state of Utah.

Mark Numbers is a familiar face in the Utah rugby scene having coached on all levels from the youngest players to high school as well as at the University of Utah and with the Utah Warriors, Utah’s professional rugby team. With a 22-year career in rugby coaching behind him Numbers is “grateful for the opportunity and excited to work with local coaches, parents and players” to grow the sport he loves most.

Under the direction of Utah Youth Rugby President, Owen Power, the organization has seen tremendous growth since his involvement began in 2015.

“We are thrilled to have Mark step into this position because of his vast coaching experience as well as his relationships within the rugby community. He will be an asset to players, parents and coaches” Power said.

Rugby in Utah has reached a stage of growth that Numbers is confident will only continue to increase as people new to the sport learn the benefits by starting to play at a young age. Those benefits, Numbers says, are both physical and mental as the culture of rugby strives to produce fine individuals both on and off the field.

“My goal is to grow the sport of rugby by creating more avenues for kids to play. I believe that rugby is not only fun to play and watch, but also one of the best arenas for youth to learn physical and mental grit. We will be hosting events and providing new resources to help accomplish this goal throughout the coming year.”

Numbers will be joining the leadership team consisting of Owen Power, President; Larry Wilson, VP; Brent Meier, High School Boys Commissioner; Carson Mellott, High School Girls Co-Commissioner; Christine Yee, High School Girls Co-Commissioner and Susan Farmer, Registrar.
