Wisconsin Girls Week 1
Wisconsin Girls Week 1
Wisconsin Girls Rugby opened the 2021 fall season looking forward to playing a fully-sanctioned 15s rugby season for the first time since 2019 when DSHA were crowned state champions,
Catholic Memoria were runners-up in 2019 and Kettle Moraine rounded out the top three. The season marks the addition of two new programs in Muskego/Vernon and Green Bay N.E.W.
DSHA vs Brookfield
DSHA defeated Brookfield 27-5 | DSHA is the perennial favorite at the start of every season, so Brookfield won’t spend too much time lamenting the loss. Their last meeting in the regular season came in 2017 when DSHA defeated Brookfield 82-0, so the Bruisers should certainly be happy with their improvement.
CMH vs Muskego/Vernon
CMH defeated Muskego/Vernon 60-0 | The Muskego-area sees its first girls rugby action since 2018. The team is based out of Muskego High School but accepts players from across the area. It’s a respectable start as the last team who debuted against CMH, Hamilton in 2017, lost 80-0.
Hamilton vs Stevens Point
Hamilton defeated Stevens Point 59-10. These teams both entered the league in 2017, but this was their first time meeting during the regular season of 15s play, and their second time meeting after Hamilton defeated Stevens Point 52-5 in the state’s third place game. SPASH opened the scoring, but Hamilton used some long runs, held up two tries, and stopped a maul at the tryline to take control of the game after their shaky start.
Green Bay vs Kettle Moraine
Green Bay defeated Kettle Moraine 39-0 | The Green Bay Banshees made their official 15s debut with reinforcements from Pulaski. Kettle Moraine was returning to rugby after their memorable 3rd place finish in 2019, but injuries left them shorthanded, and they were unable to answer in Green Bay. The Banshees saw “Little” score four tires and one conversion, CeCe score one try and a conversion, while Stazy and Erin scored one try each.
Madison also played scirmmages against Hamilton JV and SPASH JV on Saturday.
